Situating itself between the disciplines of craft and design, the lighting range, Phantasia Lampshades, seeks to elevate the enchantment of bedtime storytelling. With its magnetic detaching mechanism, it is intended that a consumer would own one frame with multiple shades, allowing stories to be changed each night.

The Phantasia Lampshades draw on the consumer interest for the artisanal handmade, and have been finished in a way to reflect Homeware and Kid’s market trend research. The hand painted celestial pattern follows a forecasted Autumn/Winter 24/25 Kid’s print trend direction, while securing the nighttime magic contexts of the work.

Burning traces of the laser cutting process provide an appearance similar to the old parchment paper used for transcribing traditional fairy tales. With a similar sentiment, the tan leather binding which connects each shade face makes reference to book binding, to provide further commentary on the craftsmanship of product process while merging the realms of technological and traditional techniques.

The use of a phone torch for the light source of this lamp ensures the phone does not become a distraction at story time, encouraging parents and carers to stay present. The interactive element of the product means the lamp can rotate to create an immersive environment, while providing the opportunity to seek key iconography and encourage the use of imagination for colour, movement, narrative and detail.
