My practice investigates flowers in an archival context – collected, sampled, and photographed over a period of time. This series acts as a reflection of the relationship between time and place, and colour and texture, all within natural environments. This essentially uses flowers as a means for documentation, taking into account where, when, and why each one was selected. In a sense, it questions the psychology behind it; why am I drawn to specific flowers? why do they all fall within a particular colour palette? what is the significance of this? Colour is certainly a particular area of focus in this series of works, as I practiced colour sampling and cataloguing in order to arrange my vast collection of photographed flowers. This is reflected in the final works as the flowers can be seen in an assortment in which correlates to their shades of pink and purple, creating a subtle gradient of sorts. In turn, this is intended to be constructed in a similar vein to that of botanical wallpaper.
