Studying in Leeds I’ve been exposed to the rich and dynamic electronic music scene that the city offers. The practice of students converting unused basements into makeshift clubs for house parties embody a raw and authentic culture that I was particularly drawn to. I became fascinated by various elements of the culture, including music, flyers, magazines, and films, which ultimately became the focal point of my final year project.
The final series of images incorporate codes generated from drum patterns to create visual representations of sound. These are expressed through screen prints, laser cuts, and collages, which were then scanned and digitised. These visual components are combined with photographs of DJ’s at events in both Leeds and Edinburgh. The work aims to highlight the unifying power of music, bringing people together from intimate clubs to large industrial spaces.
