The theme of this project focuses on mathematical abstraction inspired by the 1960s British Op art movement specifically the work of Bridget Riley. Mathematical abstraction is the process of dissecting the patterns and information within mathematics to provide an application into the real word. The mathematical principles which have been applied to the following designs focus on the fibonacci sequence, cartesian equation, fractals and the golden ratio. The universe is created with these principles which are amongst us in our every day lives taking the shapes of various natural forms.

Fibonacci Curve The fibonacci curve is phenomena that appears frequently in nature. This design was inspired by humpback whales naturally turning in the formation of fibonacci curves in the ocean.

Lissajous Curves The process of mathematical abstraction in this project has been used to form different spirograph patterns influenced by different cartesian equations.

Cosine Inspired by the work of Bridget Riley, this design uses the mathematical cosine equation to create an optical illusion.
