“Green Ritual” is an exploration of the darker aspects of local folklore, delving into the UK’s rich and storied history. The works examine the unsettling amalgamation of ruralism and isolation, where the boundaries between man and nature become increasingly blurred. The eerie is particularly prevalent in my long-term practice, which often seeks to illuminate the uncanny and unsettling aspects of our relationship with the natural world. “Green Ritual” aims to demonstrate the darker, more primal aspects of human nature, revealing the ways in which our connection to the land and our fellow beings can be not only a source of comfort but a catalyst for fear.

“The Masks Gather” (2024) Graphite and charcoal on paper illustrating folk horror and ritualism. A charcoal base was applied mapping out areas of light and contrast, before a kneaded eraser and graphite pencil were used to build in the details.

“Green Ritual Zine (Issue 1)” (2024) An A5 zine publication designed and printed on uncoated recycled paper. The zine’s content ranges from interviews with folklore specialists and television reviews to personal photography undertaken throughout the course of the project.
